To those who believe that comedy is not an actress’s cup of tea, Vidya Balan is set to prove otherwise.

Vidya, who has carried off both demure sari-clad roles and glamourous parts with aplomb, is now doing comedy in two films. The first one is the Vishal Bharadwaj production Ishqiya in which she pits an uncle ( Naseeruddin Shah ) against his nephew ( Arshad Warsi ) through her devious manipulations.

And the second would be David Dhawan’s Hook Ya Crook , in which she would be paired with John Abraham for the second time after Salaam-e-Ishq .

Earlier Amrita Rao was slated to play the leading lady in ‘Hook Ya Crook’, but was dropped from the project for reasons yet not clear.

Vidya, last seen in Aziz Mirza’s Kismat Konnection , seems to have made quite an impression on director David Dhawan . The latter recently saw Vidya’s first film Parineeta and was mesmerized by her natural beauty.

‘Hook Ya Crook’ is being written by Rensil D’Silva (the man who wrote Rang De Basanti ). This is Rensil’s first comedy film as a writer.

From whatever little is known about the film, it tells the story of a crook in a maximum security prison.
