Get ready for tangy, pungent, sizzling and spicy stuff. Be forewarned, ISHQIYA isn’t the fluffy, candyfloss, saccharine sweet story of lovers breaking into songs in mustard fields. In ISHQIYA, you just don’t know what turn the story may take next. Not just the story, even the characters here are so impulsive and unpredictable.

You need to have a strong stomach to absorb ISHQIYA. It’s high on drama, it’s wild, it’s real. But it’s not dark, it’s not sleazy, it’s not crass. Frankly, you don’t expect debutante director Abhishek Chaubey to make a stereotypical fare thanks to the tutelage by his guru Vishal Bhardwaj, who loves to swim against the tide and undertake risks in film after film.

CHECK OUT:
dil to bacha hai { video }

You could call ISHQIYA a distant cousin of OMKARA. Set in Gorakhpur in North India, the film has a rustic feel, depicts characters that may make you uncomfortable and is laced with saucy lingo. Yet, it’s different than OMKARA.

Two thieves, Khalujaan [Naseeruddin Shah] and Babban [Arshad Warsi], are on the run from their boss, Mushtaq. They seek refuge at a friend’s house, but instead meet his widow, Krishna [Vidya Balan]. The time spent together draws the duo to her, Khalu with his tinted vision of old-fashioned love and Babban with his lustful eye. But the past catches up with all three!

There’s no denying that the promos had prepared me of the journey ahead, yet it took me a good 15-odd minutes to get into the world of Khalujaan, Babban and Krishna. But once you get sucked into their world, the blurred images start getting clearer and clearer and you become an active participant in their journey.

The first hour passes in a jiffy, but the story actually gets dramatic and volatile in its second hour. It’s at this stage that things start getting more and more unpredictable. The story does a somersault every 10 minutes and by the time it reaches its finale, you’re curious to know how the debutante director would conclude this saga. The end, of course, will have its share of advocates and adversaries, but the fact remains that it’s offbeat.

Every actor in ISHQIYA delivers a sparkling performance! Naseeruddin Shah is superb as a romantic. He is matchless in the sequence when he learns the truth about Vidya and Arshad. Arshad packs in a bravura performance yet again. Post MUNNABHAI films, Arshad should be liked in this one the maximum. Vidya continues to surprise. It’s a dynamic performance undoubtedly. PAA and ISHQIYA are two landmarks in her career.

On the whole, ISHQIYA is definitely worth a watch. The film has a riveting plot, great performances, soulful music, an absorbing story and skilful direction to make the viewer fall in ishq with it. It should appeal to the hardcore masses as also the multiplex junta.

INTRODUCTION:
The movie weaves a number of love stories together thanks to the relationships of the people within it. The film is Advani’s second directorial venture after Kal Ho Naa Ho. The shooting of the film begun in November 2005 and was finished by July 2006. The movie released on January 25, 2007.

PLOT:
Six young couples in different situations, face different quandaries. All their problems are apparently caused by love, too much, too little, love for the wrong people, love for people who don’t want it, unrequited love, amnesia-afflicted love and what have you. Each of the 6 stories is moderately developed, the most believable being the Hindu-Muslim couple – the Ashutosh-Tehzeeb story. Then there is the starlet hungry to make it big, hatching up a publicity stunt which backfires – the Kkamini-Rahul deal. The third pair is that of Stephanie-Raju pair, she searching for her faithless Indian boyfriend and he the Indian taxi-driver who ferries her around the country. And then there is the Shiven-Gia yuppie marriage fiasco, with the groom with the cold-feet. The fifth story is of the stable married couple – Vinay-Seema, whose 15 year marriage is threatened when the husband wants more than just boring, suburban life. The sixth couple’s story is of Isha-Sohail as a rural couple unable to give vent to their passion. The film runs through these six stories almost in parallel, taking us to their respective conclusions.

INTRODUCTION:
The film began shooting on February 18, 2007 for a 41-day schedule at Jaipur, India and was released on October 12, 2007.
Originally Aishwarya Rai and Katrina Kaif were the first female choices for this film but they turned down the offer due to the film’s irksome comedy style and were replaced by Vidya Balan and Ameesha Patel.[2] Vidya Balan had to take Kathak lessons for this film. Incidentally, Vineeth played the same role in the Rajnikanth-starrer Chandramukhi in 2005 which was the Tamil remake of Manichithrathazhu.

PLOT:
After the passing away of her parents, Radha gets adopted by Badrinarayan Chaturvedi. Her childhood was spent with Badrinarayan’s nephew, Siddharth, and the family planned to get them married after they mature. When Siddharth grew up, he re-located to America. When the time came for him to return, Badrinarayan started to make preparations for the wedding, but ended up being surprised when Siddharth is accompanied by his wife, Avni. Due to his ancestry, Siddharth undergoes a formal coronation ceremony and moves into a huge manor. Avni starts exploring the manor and finds out that there is an entire floor that is under lock and key. She gets a key and enters the forbidden floor and unleashes a vengeful entity and a series of incidents. The family suspect Radha to be the perpetrator, prompting Siddharth to summon his seemingly bumbling Pyschiatric pal, Dr. Aditya Shrivastav, to shed some light into this seemingly occult mystery that will soon endanger everyone’s lives.

BOX OFFICE:
The film opened to a 85-95% response, which was the second best opening of the year after Partner. It was well-liked by cinema-goers for its mild comedy and psychological horror and suspense. It was director Priyadarshan’s 8th successive super-hit movie. Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan were particularly praised by critics for their roles as Dr. Aditya and Avni.
